My lactulose breath test: prep update.

Stop the presses! Despite yesterday's enthusiastic post, I have to wait another day (or two) to do my lactulose breath test.
Why? Different kit, different instructions.
My old kit (3-hour breath test via Commonwealth Labs; pricetag: $375) only said to stop antibiotics/probiotics for 2 weeks prior to testing.
My new kit (2-hour breath test via Genova Labs; and less than half the price!) said this, too. But it also said to stop taking laxatives for 1 week prior to testing.
Ruh-roh. Didn't know. So I took my current prokinetic fave (Cascara sagrada formula + Mg glycinate) on Friday night. Today is only Monday.
So, I'm going to wait.
Grrrr. At least there's plenty of boiled chicken meat and stock to keep me well fed in the meanwhile. (See yesterday's post for details.)
Surprise Bonus: after one day of doing the SIBO test prep diet, yesterday, I woke up with zero bloat this morning. Even though I ate a little white rice at lunch time. Interesting.
What I didn't eat was any vegetable matter.
Typically, vegetables are my favorite food group. For many years I was even a raw foodist. Veggies galore, packed with tons of healthy fiber, unless juiced. I did a lot of juicing, too. And now, I wonder... was all that veggieness really the best plan for me? Are raw vegetables, whole grains and a beany vegetarian diet in general partly to blame for my SIBO/IBS digestive problems?
It's a lot to consider. Tough pill to swallow. I'll continue pondering and more on this to follow. Today I'm just being a preppie. (And a poet.)
